Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
We've been in business since 1988.
What is your primary product or service?
We publish DiversityCentral.com, a business center for practicing effective diversity management and developing cultural intelligence. We are a premiere destination for workplace solutions!
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Barbara Deane, Editor, has a background in intercultural communication and multicultural issues in the workplace. Carlos Gil, Publisher, is Professor Emeritus, Department of History, University of Washington, specializing in Latin American history and culture.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We were one of the first national publications focusing on workforce diversity. However, we emphasized both culture and diversity because demographic diversity also involves cultural beliefs, patterns, styles and history. Hence, the name of our hard copy publication from 1988 to 2000 was, Cultural Diversity at Work, and this is still the name of our online Archive. Also, we did not allow our writers to focus only on the problems or challenges of diversity, but on the solutions. Now the term diversity has been combined with inclusion, and inclusion is really about solutions.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We now function virtually.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept checks and credit card payments.
Which areas do you service?
Our customer base is global.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Barbara Deane
What are your hours of operation?
24/7 when you are virtual and global!
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
The best compliment came from one of our managing editors, who said that we were skillful in forming the questions of this new field of diversity. A diversity leader of a company once said we offered high quality, how-to information. We like to think that our publication chronicled the efforts of companies and organizations as they have addressed diversity, and inclusion, in the workplace over the past 26 years.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
One of my favorite quotes is from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."
