How long have you been in business?
OOZ & OZ has been in business since 1993.
What is your primary product or service?
I am the inventor and manufacturer of Morph-O-Scopes - anamorphic optical Illusion arty/science toys and activities for ages 5 through adult. Morph-O-Scopes were inspired by a 16th Century optical illusion device (the anamorphoscope) used by Renaissance artists and spies to hide secret images in plain sight. The original device consists of two parts: an unrecognizable, twisted picture (the morph) and a mirrored cylinder (the decoder). When the decoder is positioned just right within a morph, it untangles the warped picture and “mirror-aculously” reflects it as a normal image. Morph-O-Scopes Kits boasts an awesome variety of interactive anamorphic hand-eye challenges to pull in today's tech-savvy kids and keep them engaged, independently, for hours. No batteries needed! Primary markets: toys, education, events, premiums & promotions.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I first became interested in the ancient concept of anamorphosis decades ago when I discovered an ancient anamorphoscope in a museum at Harvard University. I was on campus as a technical illustrator on a book project at the time.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
OOZ & OZ is the only company in the world creating anamorphic coloring activities for children. OOZ & OZ Morph-O-Scopes have earned 26 top toy awards.(We're even mentioned in Wikipedia: "anamorphosis".)
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
OOZ & OZ is an online, home based, West Seattle business. We do not have a brick-and-mortar storefront.
