Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since April 2003 (so 10 years as of this writing).
What is your primary product or service?
Counseling, couples counseling, marriage counseling & psychotherapy.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I started out after college working in IT, for IBM. I always knew I was cut out for something else. After years of pondering on it, I realized I was always the "office therapist" - the guy who would go from office to office and check in with people to see how their lives, dreams, and relationships were going. I love to talk to people about improving their lives!
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
A few ways: one, my background of over a decade in corporate high-tech helps me relate to a LOT of people in the Seattle area. Work & career are a big part of our lives, and that's stuff I get. Also, my specialty area is working with Nice Guys & People Pleasers. Finally, as a native of NY (I came here in 1999) I understand "The Seattle Freeze", and how hard it can be to feel at home here, if you're from somewhere else.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Just my one office on Westlake Avenue North (Lake Union). That's all I need.
Provide detailed directions to your location
I'm conveniently located off the Mercer Street exit of I-5. Follow the signs for Westlake Avenue.
What type of payments do you accept?
Cash, check, credit and debit cards, as well as FSA/HSA cards.
Which areas do you service?
Seattle, and anywhere people are willing to drive from.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
It's just me. My wife helps some with insurance billing.
What are your hours of operation?
I work Monday to Friday. Earliest I meet is 9am. Most days I end with a 5pm appointment, though I usually work late one or two nights per week.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
It's when they come back months or years later and tell me about the great new things in their lives - the things they wanted back when we met, and how happy they are now. This makes me very, very satisfied.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
"It's nice to be nice....to the nice."
